Last week we German volunteers of the non-profit organization FUPEC (“Familias Unidas por las Enfermedades Catastróficas''), went to the Language Exchanges of Cafe Ñucallacta and Jorge Isaac Peña to present our newest project. We had an amazing experience meeting new people, locals and foreigners from all over Ecuador and the world!
The first one happened last wednesday evening in Avenida Loja, the second location of Cafe Ñucallacta where weekly language exchanges happen with Andrea Sangurima, a great organizer that likes to refresh her exchanges with new visitors like us. We had the honor to present our project of International Volunteers with the friendly and open audience there. Afterwards we played a little game together in which one had the opportunity to roll a dice and depending on which color it landed they could ask questions prepared by us in that color. Of course we didn’t miss practicing our Spanish and English skills with the participants that night. All in all a wonderful evening.
The second one was last Saturday afternoon in the Hotel Selina. We had luck with having sunny weather that day and enjoying Cuencas view from their terrace. The presentation of our newest project also reached an audience with advanced knowledge in English and Spanish. Fortunately for us, because it was easier to explain our charity work! Jorge Isaac, the coordinator of this language exchange, found the perfect place for foreigners and locals to meet in a beautiful and vibrant location, next to Calle Larga. A famous spot in the historic center of Cuenca. A big thanks to him too for hosting us. As we were a smaller group we were able to talk to the participants directly and get to know each other easily, happily to see some of the faces were already familiar from the other exchange.
All in all both places are recommended when it comes to meeting new cool people and practicing your language skills for free! Besides the language exchange both locations offer a great variety of delicious dishes and a welcoming atmosphere. It was a great chance for introducing both foreigners and locals to be part of a voluntary service in FUPEC.
