For most people cancer is synonymous with death, pain and despair. Some families, in addition to going through all this, have learned to see in cancer family unity, love and the opportunity to serve others.

In 2011, Dr. Diego Jimbo, a doctor from Cuenca, whose family also experienced the loss of several family members to cancer, founded FUPEC, a non-profit organization that helps families with cancer and other catastrophic diseases throughout Ecuador.

Since then FUPEC supports people with cancer and catastrophic diseases through social, academic and public advocacy projects. 

In this context we offer legal assistance services, psychological help, medical advice, spiritual support and the delivery of food kits, toys, clothing and other supplies to patients, families and citizens in general.

We work on the mental health of people with cancer in the  project "siempre bella", which seeks to improve self-esteem through psychological support and the delivery of wigs with natural hair.

We have carried out several projects to improve the quality of life of these families through professionals and volunteers through hospital and home visits.

But don't think that's all!

Through inter-institutional work with public and private entities we aim to improve the quality of life and health care with trainings for health professionals of the national health system. 

We have participated in assemblies as spokespersons for people who suffer violations and we are part of the elaboration of laws and research projects regarding the situation of patients with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

And after more than a decade, our family has grown so much and gained so many followers!

We are happy to have come so far, however, our work does not end here.
