A restored colonial mansion transformed into a luxurious boutique hotel, Mansión Alcázar, previously known as “Casa Cordero”, is a beautiful example of Cuenca’s most exquisite and valuable architecture, fit for even the most demanding visitors. It is located in the heart of Cuenca’s historical downtown and stands out thanks to the efforts of the people who have worked hard to preserve its timeless beauty. Its interior decor gives the sensation of stepping into a different time as you are greeted with the utmost class and respect. Mansión Alcázar is a place like no other.
Built in the late 19th century, it was first inhabited by the Chacón family, who didn’t own the property for long. The mansion was then sold to the Cordero Espinoza family, who resided in the house for a long time and then proceeded to sell the property once more to the Vázquez Alcázar family. In 1996, Mr. Guillermo Vázquez decided to create a hotel that catered to the needs of the upper class, and so the idea for a boutique hotel was born. The structure was sold again to his daughter Rocío Vázquez Alcázar, who built the company Aghartsa S.A., thus creating the path to make her father’s dream a reality. In 1997, the mansion had to be rebuilt and properly adapted in order to make the hotel better fit the early 20th century. It was delicately adorned with the finest and most elegant pieces of art and furniture to create a proper ambience for visitors. On January 18th, 2001, the work was finally done and the inauguration of Mansión Alcázar as we know it today, took place on August 7th of that same year.
The mansion offers its visitors 14 finely detailed, charming rooms, each with its own identity, combining the republican era with modern commodities and thus ensuring a delightful stay and an unforgettable experience that is sure to please and bring visitors back again and again. In addition, every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Mansión Alcázar is host to Piano Night, which is a wonderful opportunity to relax while listening to great music.
