Local Moonshine (aguardiente) Tasting and Pairing with Traditional Foods
During this cultural event, we will review and talk about the history, production, smuggling, and marketing of sugarcane moonshine from various regions around our province, Azuay. You will have small tastings and pair them with traditional foods of Ecuador. You have the option to try cocktails made with different moonshines as well.
For 11 years, Esteban Arévalo has been working in cultural immersion tourism in South America, focused on indigenous history and Latin American gastronomy. He has worked with and trained under sommeliers and chefs from Argentina, Ecuador, and Colombia. As a mountaineer and trail runner, he has had the opportunity to get to know rural towns where moonshine is still distilled, and he has become friends with those who were once bootleggers and liquor smugglers during Prohibition in Ecuador.
The event is held at idiomART, which is located at: Mariscal Lamar 14-25 y Estevez de Toral; Cuenca, Ecuador
