Ecuadorian fishermen David Espinoza, José Serrano y Francisco Mero arrived at the port of Manta on Wednesday. They were rescued Saturday northeast of the Galápagos by La Peña, a fishing vessel bearing a Guatemalan flag.
Several people aboard the foreign vessel noticed the Ecuadorian boat adrift, and rescued its crew.
According to the Capitanía del Puerto de Manta, the crew members had disappeared on August 15, and it was known that the three of them did not possess any official maritime documents, nor the license for their boat, called “Manuel.”
Once in Manta, the fishermen were examined by medical practitioners to ensure their stable health.
The Armada del Ecuador thanked the crew of the Guatemalan boat for its safe delivery of the shipwrecked Ecuadorians.
