Fiesta Time is almost here and King Smokehouse is in the mood to party. We will be open all week (even during the festivities) to make sure you have all the delicious gourmet products you crave. Of course, we have a special special for you along with a classic recipe. We all know Felix has the BEST ground beef to be found in Cuenca-no doubt about it. We also know he has delicious, melty Cheddar cheese. Oh yum. So for you this week we have two fabulous recipes using these great ingredients. Oh, totally yummy. And to make this special you can buy a Ground Beef/Cheddar Cheese combo and realize a whopping 50 cents per pound discount on your cheese. Naturally, Felix is fully stocked on all his great items and is ready to serve you NOW!
This week’s first recipe showcases an easy-to make classic featuring tasty hamburger ‘steaks’ smothered in gravy and onions. Serve with hot rice, it’s a great way to dress up a pound of ground beef and you probably have all the ingredients on hand! Add a salad and biscuits! Easy.
1 pound King Smokehouse ground beef.
¼ cup bread crumbs or fine saltine cracker crumbs
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
½ each teaspoon seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder
1 teaspoon Salsa Ingles sauce
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup thinly sliced onion
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup beef broth (1 beef bouillon cube dissolved in water)
1 tablespoon cooking sherry or red wine (optional but very tasty)
½ teaspoon seasoned salt
In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 8 balls and flatten into patties. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties and onion in the oil until patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side. Remove the beef patties to a plate, and keep warm. Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet. Stir in flour with a fork, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you stir. Gradually mix in the beef broth and sherry/wine. Season with seasoned salt. Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens. Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer for another 15 minutes.
Recipe two (goes great with the steaks) is Mountain Home Gourmet’s Cheddar Cheese Biscuits.
Make a batch of Mountain Home Gourmet Biscuits, add ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder and ¾ cup shredded Cheddar cheese. Drop by large spoons onto a baking sheet and bake as directed. Brush hot biscuits with melted butter. Oh my ooey gooey deliciousness. We are just across from Parque San Sebas on Coronel Talbot. 9-5 (Sat. 9:30-4:30), closed Sunday.
