Our Saturday Salon lecture series have been a real hit and we’re excited for this month’s topic.

Since Pre-Columbian times, Inti Raymi is celebrated every year during the summer solstice in the indigenous communities of Ecuador. Worshipping the sun is a very ancient ritual practiced for centuries in the Andean world, especially by the Inca culture. During colonialism, the ceremony started to experience variations due to Christian cults. In this salon, we will explore the origin of the ceremony and the current variations and symbolism with a special focus on the ceremony’s synergy with the Christian celebration, Corpus Christi.

The salon is give by Berenice Cárdenas
