Join Cuban musicians, Yunior Hernandez and Noel Batista, for an incredible 4-day workshop where you will learn the basics of Cuban and other Caribbean rhythms!
Cuban and Caribbean percussion is full of interesting instruments that were mainly brought to the island from Africa and then adapted, which is why percussion is such an ancestral part of the Caribbean and Cuban culture.
In this workshop, we will begin by becoming aware of the rhythms of our own bodies. We will use our hands and feet then branch out to utilize other things such as tables and chairs. This will help us understand rhythm as our ancestors did before they had formal instruments.
Once we find the rhythm within our own body, then we will move it to the instruments we have on hand! For this workshop, it isn’t necessary that you bring actual Cuban instruments…any drum or percussion instrument will work.
