Join artist, Daniel Williams, for this 2-day workshop, you’ll learn a set of simplified techniques that create beautiful, intricate, and symmetrical designs. Mandala drawing is a meditative practice that has been used for centuries to depict spiritual concepts, promote relaxation, and generate creativity.
In this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to hone in on visual and kinetic fundamentals like balance, proportions, and hand-eye coordination. When drawing mandalas, we build an intuitive understanding of spatial rhythm through the repetition of patterns and proportions. The dynamic nature of drawing a mandala requires students to draw a variety of lines from different angles, making it a great low-stakes exercise to build dexterity. The reiterative nature of movement allows artists to overcome creative blockages and reach a higher level of flow and focus. Many of these skills extend into other genres of visual arts, like landscape painting or figure drawing.
Both class sessions will begin with a lecture-based demonstration, after which students will apply the learned material to a personal project of their choosing. Class lectures will focus on:
Gridding and Measuring
Circle Compass Techniques
Drawing Decorative Elements
Pattern-making
Hatching, Stippling, and Other Techniques
Students will leave the workshop with notes, completed mandala drawings, and the skills to continue creating beautiful designs on their own.
No prior drawing experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. Come join us for an afternoon of relaxation, creativity, and fun. Register today to reserve your spot!
