In January we had to postpone this incredible lecture and we have just a handful of seats available for the new date this Saturday! Join Berenice Cárdenas this Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10:30 am as she discusses a popular local figure known as the Chola Cuencana and her partner El Cholo.
Everyday we see these traditional people walking along the streets of Cuenca, at the markets, and in the country side. However, they are more than a social class or folkloric figure that many locals and foreigners mistakenly call “indigenous people.” There is a whole history of racial and cultural exchanges between Europe and the New World during the colonial era that has affected their traditional clothing on through to today.
