Join Ali Agca Trio with special guest soloist Su Terry for an incredible afternoon of Turkish and Ecuadorian jazz and blues fusion music. This concert will be an eclectic variety of Turkish jazz and blues as well as Ecuadorian fusion music and a few standards sprinkled in. This is the first time this particular style of jazz fusion will be performed in Cuenca, Ecuador!
The trio performs regularly at the Jazz Society Cafe, Bistro Yaku, Common Grounds, Nómadas, and more. They are widely known and loved by the expat community and Ecuadorian jazz fans alike. Su Terry is a renowned musician whose talent is second to none. Jazz Central Stations says, “She plays like Charlie Parker reincarnated! She smokes!” She is a soprano saxophone and clarinet soloist, composer, and author who has played numerous venues in Cuenca and around the world, including our very own Cuenca Symphony. This is a patio sessions concert not to be missed!
Ali Agca is known as Turkey’s top jazz and blues guitarist, sometimes likened to Eric Clapton. He is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston (the top conservatory of contemporary music in the world).
Su Terry is a jazz soloist, composer and author and has performed and recorded with a long list of Jazz VIPs, including Charli Persip, Clifford Jordan, Walter Bishop, Jr., Jaki Byard, Dr. Billy Taylor, Clark Terry, Al Jarreau, Melba Liston, Chaka Khan, George Duke and many more. She’s been a soloist with the National Symphony in Washington, D.C., the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and both the Florida and New York Pops Orchestras. International jazz festival appearances include Montreux; Grande Parade du Jazz; Pori; Northsea; Trave, Montreal, Quito, and Ottawa. In the States she’s performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl.
Christian Torres on bass and Pedro Ortiz on drums are outstanding Ecuadorian musicians and both are members of the Cuenca Symphony.
