Restaurants Around Town: La Petite Crêperie

img_2321On our first trip to Cuenca last January, in 2015, my wife and I had the pleasure of meeting the chef and owner, Melissa Maher, of the Black Olive Bistro in El Centro. She is a charming French Canadian, with a wonderful talent for creative cooking and a master in the kitchen!

Unfortunately, when we came back to move here this year and tried to look her up, we found that the Black Olive had closed. Imagine our pleasure when exploring our new neighborhood in the El Vergel area, when we came around a corner and there was Melissa, setting up her new restaurant La Petite Crêperie! Just across from Parque de la Madre at 1-34 Federico Malo near the corner of 12 de Abril, we couldn’t wait to come back and try her new cuisine. The restaurant is setup downstairs of her home making great use of her garden patio, a perfect set up across from the park.

Open now just over a week, she is already very busy and wowing the locals with her crêpes (sweet or savory), sandwiches, camarónes boom boom (lightly breaded shrimp with a wonderful sauce, salads, and of course papas fritas (French fries) at very reasonable prices. My wife tried the chicken crêpe with spinach and a special sauce and I had a delightful chicken, pesto and avocado sandwich on her wonderful homemade focaccia bread. Fries on the side and a perfect in house sangria rounded out the meal.

Do yourself a favor and pay her a visit, you won’t be disappointed!

Open Tues-Fri from 9:30am to 7:00pm and Sat/Sun from 1:00pm to 7:00. Closed Monday
